Business Groups Propose Workers’ Comp Changes

Associated Industries of Florida and other business groups released a proposal Tuesday aimed at holding down workers’ compensation insurance rates — including revamping a state law about fees paid to injured workers’ attorneys.

Associated Industries and other groups, such as the National Federation of Independent Business, released the proposal after a pair of Florida Supreme Court rulings last year helped lead to a 14.5 percent insurance rate increase. The Supreme Court, in part, ruled that a law strictly limiting attorney fees was unconstitutional.
